I wish that there was a way to block any post, review or article related to something entertainment-related that I plan on experiencing. Especially if it’s in the title.
Say, for instance, you see a negative review title for a new album that just came out from a band that you haven’t had a chance to listen to yet. Even if it’s just a clickbait negative/neutral title like “New album good, but not all that it could be”, it’s still a type of spoiler that puts a seed of doubt in your mind, which will take away from the excitement of experiencing the album.
Mind you, I don’t think that everyone should refrain from writing reviews. There are many shows and movies I never would have given a chance or even heard of if not for the reviews that I’ve read.
What I’m talking about are the things that I am already looking forward to and want to experience regardless of what everyone else thinks about it. I’ve always found it a bit sad that so many people judge people for enjoying things, but then in the same breath complain when someone judges them for the things that they like. However, that’s an entirely different topic that I want to talk about more one day.
Back to the topic at hand.. saying “well, don’t go online” is nothing more than a specious argument. We live in a digital age. Most of us sit behind a computer most of the day or look at our phones when we have a moment to see what’s going on in the outside world.
I can’t tell you how many sites I’ve had to block because they’d put a negative review or an actual spoiler in the title as I’m browsing through Google News.
I’d like some sort of web filter that would allow us to block reviews and articles of things that we are wanting to experience, but don’t want spoiled. It’s just a matter of time until someone makes one, it’s just mildly irritating until they do.
Anyway, I’m done ranting. I just really wanted to write this all out.
